Why Varsity Space

One place, not forty WhatsApp groups

Campus-wide, faculty and year chats and every society you join, with history kept for new members.

Every account is a real student

Sign-up needs a university email. Memberships, roles and attendance are confirmed by someone else.

Your university only

Everything you see comes from your own campus. UCT is first. Other universities follow later.

What is inside

Built for how campus actually works

A small set of features that do their job well. No algorithm decides what you see, and there are no scores or follower counts.

Verified identity

Every claim is confirmed by someone else

Your profile is not a list of things you say about yourself. It shows what your university, your society leaders and your project teammates have confirmed. You choose which details are visible, or stay anonymous.

Your profile

Short on purpose

Name, faculty, degree, optional year, a photo and one link. Hide any field, or every field, and you still show as a verified student.

Inside the app

Take a look around

Thirteen screens from the beta. Swipe, use the arrows, or let it play.

  • Campus feed

Trust and safety

Safe by default, private by design

Only verified students can join, and only students at your university can see your campus. When something is wrong, you have the tools to act.

  • Report anythingPosts, comments, messages, groups and accounts. The student is not told who reported them.
  • Block in one tapYou stop seeing each other's posts, comments and messages.
  • An admin for each universityReviews reports, checks manual verifications and can remove or restore access.
POPIA

Built to follow South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act

  • A Privacy Policy that says what we collect, why, how long we keep it and who can see it. You accept it at sign-up with a box that is not pre-ticked.
  • Data minimisation. We only collect what a feature needs.
  • Personal data is encrypted at rest. Verification documents are never shown on profiles and are deleted after review.
  • Ask for full account and data deletion from inside the app at any time.

FAQ

Questions students ask

Something else? Email hello@varsity.space.

Who can join?

Current students at a recognised university. We start with the University of Cape Town. High school students, the general public and unverified alumni cannot join.

Why do I need a university email?

It is how we confirm you are a current student. Accounts that are not verified cannot log in. If you cannot receive email on your student address, ask for manual verification and a UCT admin will check your registration.

Can I stay anonymous?

Yes. You can hide any profile field, or all of them. You still show as a verified UCT student, and you can post anonymously in the feed.

Is it a replacement for WhatsApp groups?

For campus life, yes. Faculty, year, society and event chats live in one app, keep their history for new members, and leaders can pin announcements and moderate.

Does the marketplace take payments?

No. Varsity Space does not handle money. You agree on the price and meet in a public place on campus.

When can I use it?

We are running a closed beta with a small group of UCT students first. Join the list and we will email you when your invite is ready. iPhone testers get access through TestFlight.

How do I delete my account?

From inside the app, under Privacy and data. You can also start the request on our account deletion page.
